TRISHAW REVIVAL

Trishaws has been integral part of Penang culture since the early 20th century. They have been a key attraction to tourists before the era of motorised vehicles. Today there are barely 100 trishaws left in Penang. Young generation are not willing to continue this profession due to poor revenue and better opportunities elsewhere.

Due to COVID-19, tourism has come to a standstill, which has been a devastating blow to the Trishaw owners. To preserve the Trishaw heritage, Rotary Club of Penang plans to aid the Trishaw owners to weather this unexpected storm.

The aid will be in the form of temporary financial assistance and also through introduction of long term strategies such as

· Modernization of the trishaw by introducing best practices from Thailand & Malacca.

· App based booking to improve accessibility for tourists

· Hop-on & Hop-off tickets
