On 25 February 2024, the Rotary Club of Penang continued its long-standing tradition of spreading festive cheer by hosting a Chinese New Year Charity Lunch for senior citizens, as well as mentally and physically challenged individuals from Georgetown. Held at the historic Leong See Kah Miew Temple Hall, the event was organized in collaboration with Fokus Beramal Pulau Pinang, a local non-profit dedicated to community care.
A Celebration of Togetherness
Guests were treated to a hearty lunch, lively performances, and the warm spirit of the Lunar New Year. In keeping with tradition, each attendee also received angpows — monetary gifts symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. Beyond the food and festivities, the event reminded participants that they are valued members of the community, not forgotten during times of joy and celebration.
More Than Just a Meal
For many elderly residents and individuals with disabilities, festivals can feel isolating when they are away from family or living in homes. By bringing people together in laughter, music, and fellowship, the charity lunch provided not only physical nourishment but also a much-needed emotional boost. This small act of kindness uplifted spirits, strengthened bonds, and reinforced the belief that no one in Georgetown should be left behind.
